Although he’s new to the cinema industry, Cedric Gatesi has quickly emerged as one of Rwanda’s most promising actors. In a recent interview with Chita Magic, he opened up about his journey, his multiple roles, and the mission that drives him forward.
When asked to introduce himself, he responded simply,
“I’m a normal person. I work as a businessman and an actor.”
Cedric is also a single father—a role that has deeply shaped his mindset.
“Becoming a father made me mature. It pushed me to think carefully because I know I have to work hard, not just for me, but for my child too,” he shared.
Beyond acting, Cedric is an entrepreneur with several ventures.
“I’m involved in trading, event management, and marketing. I’m always looking for new opportunities,” he explained. He also owns several bars and is currently working on expanding that business.
A unique aspect of Cedric’s public presence is his self-given title of “social media psychologist.” When Chita Magic asked what that means, he shared:
“After taking time to think, I realized that many people—especially women—suffer from sadness and depression, but no one notices. When I see a girl acting in ways society might judge, I don’t blame her. Sometimes, it’s not about being ‘naughty.’ It’s pain and depression showing through.”

On his TikTok account Ukuri Kuryana, Cedric creates content focused on supporting women, particularly single mothers.
“In Rwanda, it’s not easy to find a psychiatrist. That’s why I chose to do this. Many people tell me my videos have helped them,” he said.
When asked how he managed to gain popularity so quickly in the film industry, Cedric credited his dedication and work ethic:
“Whatever I do, I put my whole heart into it. I give it everything I’ve got. The director saw that in me. When I work, I treat it as real work—and here we are.”
He also mentioned some Rwandan stars he’d love to collaborate with:
“Among actresses, I’d like to work with Bazongere, Bahavu, and Alliah Cool. For actors, I’d love to act with Papa Sava and Tukowote.”
At the end of the interview, Chita Magic asked him about the secret to his success. Cedric responded thoughtfully:
“Humility and silence. When you talk too much about your plans, it becomes harder to achieve them. So I keep quiet and let my work speak for itself.”

Cedric currently stars in the popular Rwandan web series Umukire w’Umumillionaire Yihinduye Umukozi wo mu Rugo Kubera Urukundo—a show that has captured the attention of many viewers. He encouraged fans to stay tuned:
“Get ready. I have a lot more in store for you.”
He closed the interview with a message of gratitude:
“Thank you to everyone who supports us in these films. Your support means more than you know. You’re changing our lives.”
Cedric Gatesi isn’t just building a career—he’s building a platform for purpose. In a country where mental health is often overlooked, his voice is becoming a much-needed reminder: healing sometimes starts with being heard.
