Many people know her as Nana or Sandra from Citymaid. She has starred in numerous notable films in the Rwandan cinema industry, making her widely recognized by audiences. Versatile and passionate about her craft, she continues to prove herself as a talented actress.

Early Life and Education

IRADUKUNDA Nadine, popularly known as Nadine Nana, is a 24-year-old Rwandan actress born on February 12, 2001, in Kanombe, Kigali. She grew up in Kirehe, Rwanda, as the eldest of three siblings. Before joining the film industry, she pursued tourism and hotel management (hospitality) at Kayonza Technical School.

Journey into Acting

In an interview with Chita Magic, Nadine opened up about her journey into acting.

“I entered the Rwandan film industry in 2022, but I first started acting at the end of 2021. My debut role was in The Pact, a film by Pascaline. Acting has always been something I loved.”

When asked whether acting had always been her dream, she explained:

“I’ve always loved movies, actors, and actresses, but I never imagined myself acting. I thought I was just a fan who enjoyed the film industry.”

However, one day, she decided to attend a casting call.

“I never thought I would be selected, but it happened anyway! I couldn’t believe it—it felt surreal. Even after getting the role, I didn’t fully accept it until I stepped onto the set for the first time.”

She recalled how nervous she was on her first day on set.

“I remember standing there, feeling like I didn’t belong. I kept thinking, ‘What if I mess up? What if I’m not good enough?’ But once the cameras started rolling, I forgot everything and just acted. That moment made me realize this is what I was meant to do.”

Career Highlights and Influences

Nadine Nana grew up admiring actresses like Nana Nadege and Alliah Cool, who played Nelly in Rwasa. Her acting career took off with roles in The Pact, 30 Days, Citymaid, Maya, Shuwadilu, and Behind.

She credits Pascaline Ingabire as the person who introduced her to the Rwandan film industry.

“Pascaline Ingabire was the first person who believed in me, even when I didn’t know I had the ability to act. I deeply appreciate everything she did for me.”

Currently, Nadine stars in TV series like Citymaid and Shuwadilu, as well as the web series Behind.

When asked about her favorite project, she said:

“Every movie I’ve acted in is important to me, but Behind is my favorite, followed by Citymaid. Behind pushed me to explore emotions I had never expressed before, and that was a great learning experience.”

She described her role in Citymaid as one of her most unforgettable experiences.

“I grew up watching Citymaid, a series that made many actors famous. Being part of it felt like a great honor. I remember the day I was cast—I couldn’t believe it! It felt like a dream coming true.”

Regarding challenging roles, she admitted that The Pact was the most difficult.

“Since it was my first movie, everything felt like a challenge. I didn’t know where to look, how to position myself, or even how to control my voice. But that experience shaped me into the actress I am today.”

Facing Challenges in the Industry

Nadine acknowledged that breaking into the industry wasn’t easy.

“The Rwandan film industry is growing, but there are still many challenges, especially for newcomers. Sometimes, people don’t take you seriously, and you have to prove yourself over and over again. I had to learn to trust my talent and keep pushing forward.”

She also emphasized the importance of discipline and professionalism.

“People think acting is just about talent, but it’s also about work ethic. If you’re not disciplined, no matter how talented you are, you won’t last in this industry.”

Her Path to Success

When asked how she achieved success, she attributed it to both faith and hard work.

“I am where I am today because of God, who helped me in everything, and my dedication. It wasn’t easy. If I hadn’t worked hard, I wouldn’t be here. And without God’s help, my hard work wouldn’t have paid off. I’m truly grateful.”

She also expressed her appreciation for Yves Mizero, who has supported and guided her throughout her journey.

Advice to Aspiring Actors

Nadine encouraged young actors and actresses to believe in their talent.

“If you don’t bet on yourself, nobody else will. Believe in your abilities, but always put God first. People will doubt you, and sometimes you will doubt yourself, but don’t let that stop you.”

She also advised aspiring actors to focus on learning and improving.

“Watch movies, practice every day, and take every opportunity to grow. Even if you don’t get a role, use that as motivation to become better. Your time will come.”

Aiming for International Recognition

As one of the youngest actresses in Rwandan cinema, Nadine’s versatility has made her a fan favorite. However, she has bigger ambitions.

“I don’t just want to be recognized locally. My vision is to compete on an international level. I want to prove that Rwandans have talent, that we are capable, and that we can win global awards. That’s my goal.”

When asked about her dream collaborations, she smiled and said:

“I’d love to work with international directors and actors. If I could choose, I’d say Lupita Nyong’o, Viola Davis, and some Nollywood legends like Genevieve Nnaji. I believe Africa has powerful stories to tell, and I want to be part of that movement.”

A Message to Her Fans

Nadine ended the interview by thanking her fans and supporters.

“The people who love and support me unconditionally are my biggest motivation. Every message, every comment, and every word of encouragement means so much to me. I ask them to keep supporting me—I won’t disappoint them.”

She also promised that bigger things were coming.

“This is just the beginning. There’s so much more I want to achieve, and I can’t wait to share it all with you!”
