Many people know him as Tony MUGISHA Allan from his TikTok account, but his real name is LINO TONY JOHN ALFORE. A 21-year-old South Sudanese student, Tony is currently pursuing a degree in Finance at ULK in Kigali, Rwanda. He has been living in Gisozi, Kigali, since February 2024, and despite being in Rwanda for just a year, he has already started to become fluent in Kinyarwanda.

Tony’s Journey to Rwanda

Before moving to Rwanda, Tony was supposed to live with his sister in Egypt. However, his mother’s friend, who had a son studying in Rwanda, suggested that Tony also move there. His mother changed her mind and sent him to Rwanda instead—a decision Tony is now grateful for.

“I’m thankful for my mom’s choice because, thanks to her, I got to meet very welcoming and kind people. I now feel at home,” he shared in a recent interview with Chita Magic.

A Fresh Start on TikTok

Tony revealed that he had once quit TikTok due to a lack of engagement. However, he made a comeback in February 2024, determined to give it one last shot.

“I told myself that if I didn’t get many views, I wouldn’t post again. But surprisingly, my video performed much better than before. That’s how I kept going, making videos in which I speak Kinyarwanda,” he said.

As his content gained traction, Tony found himself deeply connected with the Rwandan audience, who embraced his humor and language-learning journey.

First Impressions of Rwanda

When asked about his initial thoughts on Rwanda, Tony shared his admiration for the country.

“When I first arrived, I was amazed. The country is clean, safe, and full of friendly people. Rwandans are fun!” he said.

Dreams and Education

Growing up, Tony dreamed of becoming an actor, but his mother insisted that he focus on education first.

“My mom told me I must study and get a certificate before I pursue my dreams,” he explained.

He studied accounting in high school and has since developed a love for Rwandan cuisine, with his favorite dishes being chicken and imvange.

Recognition from Rwandan Celebrities

Tony was overwhelmed when two popular Rwandan content creators, General Benda and Osmarito, commented on his videos.

“It felt surreal. I thought I was dreaming and even slapped myself to check if it was real! I couldn’t sleep because I was so surprised,” he admitted.

Tony later spoke with Osmarito, and the two agreed to collaborate on a video soon—a moment he is eagerly looking forward to.

Why He Loves Rwanda and President Kagame

Tony has deep admiration for President Paul Kagame, praising his leadership and the welcoming environment he has created for foreigners.

“He makes us feel at home. Everything is organized and done according to the law. He loves his people, and his people love him. He’s not just a president; he’s like a father to the nation,” Tony said.

He also highlighted Rwanda’s digital advancements and its visa-free policy for all African countries, which he believes makes Rwanda stand out as an extraordinary nation.

Plans for the Future

When asked if he plans to stay in Rwanda after university, Tony answered with confidence.

“I will stay in Rwanda. This is home. People love me here, and I feel free. I’ll only visit my country, but I plan to do my master’s degree here,” he said.

The Story Behind His Rwandan Name

Tony’s Rwandan name, MUGISHA, was given to him by his friends, who mostly speak Kinyarwanda.

“Sometimes, I didn’t understand what they were saying, so they decided to give me a Rwandan name—MUGISHA,” he shared.

His Bond with Mama Tony

Many people have wondered if Mama Tony is his biological mother. Tony clarified that she is not, but they share a deep bond.

“We met when she was selling, and we connected. She helped me with groceries and taught me Kinyarwanda. I consider her my mother now,” he said.

A Message to His Supporters

At the end of the interview, Tony expressed gratitude to his fans.

“I love you all—not just as fans, but as family. You mean a lot to me. Keep supporting me, because without you, I’m nothing. Let’s do this together!” he said.
