After showcasing their unity during the UCI Cycling World Championships recently held in Kigali, Rwandan actors, filmmakers, and members of the technical team continued their spirit of community engagement by participating in Umuganda (community work) in Bugesera District.

The activity, organized by the Mashariki African Film Festival coordination team, aimed to bring artists closer to the public — giving fans a chance to meet their favorite stars and better understand the people behind the names they’re voting for in the ongoing festival awards.

Speaking to the media, Tresor Nsenga highlighted the value of community participation and transparency in the festival’s voting process. He also reminded the public that the festival will culminate in a grand awards ceremony, where two cars will be awarded to top winners. Nsenga encouraged the public to recognize the artists they’ve voted for and continue supporting Rwandan talent.

As part of the engagement, the actors introduced themselves and shared their respective voting numbers, helping fans understand how and where to cast their votes.

After completing the community work, the group visited the Bugesera Genocide Memorial to pay tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, reflecting on Rwanda’s history and honoring those who lost their lives.

The event brought together some of Rwanda’s most recognized film and television personalities, including Niyonshuti Yannick (Killaman), Captain Regis, Kayonga Gatesi Divine (Kaliza in Kaliza wa Kalisa), Djasmine (Jojo wa Joxy / Lavie in Intimba ya Lavie), Nadine Iradukunda (Sandra in City Maid), Analysa Munyana (Mama Sava), Karemera Philemon (Serugendo),Clenie Dusenge (Madederi in Papa Sava), Bamenya, Antoinette Uwamagohoro (Intare y’Ingore), and many others.

The day was filled with laughter, teamwork, and reflection — blending community service, cultural pride, and artistic engagement. It reinforced the Mashariki African Film Festival’s mission to celebrate not only cinema but also social responsibility, unity, and the power of art to bring people together.
