Early Life: Growing Up in Challenging Circumstances
Killaman Major’s father, Shyaka, is a well-known actor in the Rwandan radio drama Urunana, airing on Radio Rwanda. Despite his father’s prominence in Rwandan entertainment, Killaman Major’s childhood was far from easy. His parents separated when he was young, and he was raised by his grandmother, who took him in when he was just six months old. His grandmother became the strong figure in his life who nurtured and cared for him.

Becoming a Father: A Life-Altering Challenge
At the age of 22, Killaman Major faced one of the most significant challenges of his life: becoming a father. His wife, pregnant with their first child, was kicked out by her parents when they found out about the pregnancy. This put Killaman Major in a difficult situation, but instead of running away from his responsibilities, he chose to step up.
“People often don’t realize the weight of being a father at a young age. I had to provide for my wife and our child when everything seemed uncertain. If I were another person, I might have turned my back. But my love for my wife was real, and that’s what kept me going,” Killaman Major reflected on the early days of fatherhood.
Despite the hardships, Killaman Major worked tirelessly to support his family. He took up various jobs, including being a disc burner, where he burned CDs to make ends meet. It was a struggle, but his commitment to his family kept him moving forward.
Facing Setbacks: Gambling and Hardship
During this time, Killaman Major encountered another setback—gambling in what is called “IKIRYABAREZI.” He gambled away everything he had worked for, leaving him feeling lost and defeated. In an effort to take a step back, Killaman Major sent his wife to live with his mother in Uganda. This period of reflection allowed him to realize what truly mattered: his family and his future.
“I had nothing left. I thought I’d lost everything, but that was the turning point. I realized that if I wanted to be someone, I had to work harder than I ever had before,” he shared.

The Road to Fame: A Breakthrough in Entertainment
Killaman Major’s breakthrough came when he was introduced to Nyaxo by following him to a Nyaxo Comedy shoot. Nyaxo gave him a role, and after it aired, the positive feedback sparked his passion for acting. At first, Killaman Major wasn’t sure if acting was the right path for him, but after joining Nyaxo’s comedy troupe, Nyaxo Comedy, people began recognizing him for his talent. It was then that he realized he had found his calling.
“I wasn’t sure about acting at first, but after seeing the reactions from people, I knew I was on the right path. I owe a lot to Nyaxo for believing in me,” Killaman Major said, expressing his gratitude.
He continued to work hard, but life as a famous person wasn’t always easy. “People expect famous people to be rich, but I was broke. I started to use subways because I didn’t want them to recognize me,” he said. After his wife told him that if he didn’t try his best to bring her back, she would move on, Killaman Major took the time to think things through. That’s when he decided to write Major, his first movie. He earned 1 million Rwandan francs from it, which served as his startup capital. From there, he wrote Killaman, his second film. The money from these films helped him find a home and furnish it with essentials like beds, sofas, and wardrobes.
Killaman Major’s creativity and passion for entertainment quickly earned him recognition, and he became a well-known figure in Rwandan entertainment, with a large following across the country.

Family Life: Love, Sacrifice, and Growth

In fact, Killaman Major’s wife once gave him an ultimatum: “If you don’t come to get me within 6 months, I’ll move on.” Killaman Major didn’t waste any time—he worked hard, overcame his challenges, found a good house, bought materials, and brought her back. Their love was tested, but it emerged stronger than ever.
Now, Killaman Major and his wife have two children, whom he adores deeply. “My children are my greatest blessings. They inspire me every day to keep striving for more,” he said, with a proud smile.
