This edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) marks a historic first, as the tournament is being co-hosted by three countries: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Originally scheduled for 2024, the tournament was postponed due to lack of readiness in the host nations. CHAN 2024 finally kicked off on August 2nd, 2025, with the opening ceremony held at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Tanzania, where the hosts defeated Burkina Faso 2–0.

Kenya’s win over DRC at home was a strong start to their campaign. The match was marked by tactical discipline and a first-half goal by Austin Odhiambo that secured all three points.

In line with his pre-tournament pledge, President Ruto confirmed the following incentives for Harambee Stars:

  • KSh 1 million ($7,750) per player and technical staff member for every match won
  • KSh 500,000 ($3,875)per player and technical staff member for every draw

  • KSh 90 million($696,960) if they reach the final
  • KSh 600 million($4,646,400) if they win the tournament

These generous rewards aim to motivate the squad to perform at their highest level and bring pride to the nation.

Uganda, the third co-host, is set to play its first match on Monday, August 4th, as CHAN 2024 continues to showcase Africa’s top home-based football talent across East Africa.

With confidence high and momentum building, the Harambee Stars now look ahead to their next fixture, hoping to continue their winning streak and cash in on more of Ruto’s promises.
