From viral skits to prime-time television, Dogiteri Nsabi has redefined Rwandan comedy. What started as a passion for acting in school clubs turned into a career that now brings laughter to millions. But behind the humor lies a story of resilience, creativity, and a determination to stand out.
Early Life & Education
Eric Nsabimana, better known as Dogiteri Nsabi, is a 26 years old Rwandan actor who was born on July 2, 1999, in Musanze, Rwanda. He is the second-born of Bizabarimana Martin and Mukashefu Jacqueline in a family of four children (one girl and three boys).
From an early age, Nsabi had a passion for performance. While studying at Bwuzuri Primary School, he took part in church sketches, showcasing his natural acting talent. After passing his national primary exam, he transferred to GS Karinzi for his ordinary-level education.
At GS Karinzi, he joined the school’s media club, a platform where students showcased their talents. This club gave him the opportunity to participate in inter-school competitions, one of which became a defining moment in his journey. During a competition focused on raising awareness about disability inclusion, Nsabi played the lead role. His performance helped the school win first place, boosting his confidence and cementing his dream of becoming an actor.
Later, he transferred to GS Muhoza 1 in Musanze for his advanced-level studies, where he pursued Maths, Chemistry, and Biology (MCB). Once again, he joined the media club, using sketches to raise awareness about social issues in local communities.

First Steps in Comedy
During his final year of high school (Senior 6), Nsabi’s belief in his abilities grew stronger. He and a group of fellow students formed Icyerekezo, a team dedicated to producing short films. Their work was showcased on Irebero TV, a YouTube channel that became a launchpad for their creativity.
When the team leader left, Nsabi was nominated as the new leader, working closely with Ngabonziza Kazungu, now widely known as Ndaranyubutumwa in the Rwandan film industry.
Despite gaining local recognition, they knew they needed to expand their reach. To promote their work, they shifted their focus to short videos—bite-sized comedic skits that were easy to share and engaging enough to keep viewers entertained. This strategy set the stage for Nsabi’s breakthrough moment.

Breakthrough: The 2019 Viral Video
In 2019, Nsabi released a comedy skit about COVID-19 curfew hours, featuring a humorous exchange with a girl who refused to leave his house. The video spread like wildfire, introducing him to a national audience.
“That video made me who I am today,” Nsabi later reflected. Following its success, he was invited for his first-ever interview with journalist Olivier, marking his official entry into Rwanda’s entertainment industry.
What Makes Dogiteri Nsabi Unique?

DOGITERI NSABI’S UNIQUE OUTFIT(STYLE)
Nsabi understood that talent alone wasn’t enough—he needed to stand out.
“The videos you see aren’t the only ones I made. There were many others where I didn’t even get credit. That only motivated me to find my uniqueness,” he shared.
He decided to embrace the Northern Rwandan dialect and cultural mannerisms, making his comedy feel authentic and relatable. His distinctive outfit, speech style, and exaggerated expressions became his signature, setting him apart from other comedians.
His performances blend observational humor, satire, and strong character embodiment, making him more than just an actor—he becomes the character he plays.
With an ever-growing fan base, Nsabi and his Icyerekezo team resumed producing longer videos. As their popularity increased, so did collaboration opportunities.
One key partnership was with Killerman, a fellow comedian he met during a live session. Their collaboration brought fresh energy to both their careers, further cementing Nsabi’s place in the industry.
Among Nsabi’s most notable works are:
“My Tomorrow Forgive” – A film he wrote, directed, and starred in, which he credits as one of his most significant projects.
“Shuwadilu” (Sitcom TV series) – A well-produced show that exposed him to a broader market and solidified his reputation.
“NSABI Comedy” on Irebero TV – His dedicated comedy series, featuring skits that continue to attract thousands of viewers.

Advice to Young Aspiring Actors
For teenagers dreaming of joining the film industry, Nsabi offers simple but powerful advice:
“Having passion is great, but you must focus on what you know and what you are capable of. Learn your strengths and work hard to develop them.”
At the close of his interview, Nsabi expressed deep appreciation for those who have supported his journey.
He specifically thanked URWUNGE UWSS LTD, his most valued sponsor, saying:
“They invested in my work without expecting anything in return. They took me from recording on a phone to using professional cameras. For that, I am truly grateful.”
He also acknowledged Team Icyerekezo, praising them for their dedication and resilience.
Finally, he gave thanks to his parents, whose unconditional support helped him pursue his dreams.
“And above all,” he concluded, “I thank God, the source of everything.”
From a young boy performing in school sketches to a national comedy icon, Dogiteri Nsabi’s journey is a testament to the power of persistence and originality. His ability to transform into any character, his unique comedic style, and his dedication to storytelling have made him one of Rwanda’s most beloved entertainers.
But perhaps his greatest lesson is this: Success isn’t just about talent—it’s about finding what makes you unique and working relentlessly to share it with the world.
