Cannes film Festival bans outfits that reveal Nudity

The organizers of the Cannes Film Festival—one of the most prestigious film events in the world—have announced a significant change to the event’s dress code, officially banning outfits that reveal nudity on the red carpet and throughout the festival’s venues in France.

In recent years, the red carpet has frequently featured celebrities wearing “naked dresses”—outfits designed to expose intimate parts of the body. These daring looks have often attracted attention and sparked conversations in the media.

However, the festival’s organizers have now rejected this fashion trend. In a statement released just hours before the official announcement of the 2025 festival’s attendees, they declared that nudity will not be tolerated on the red carpet or at any official events. The decision was made to “promote appropriate conduct.”

This policy comes after years of such outfits being worn by celebrities like Rihanna, Bella Hadid, Nadia Lee Cohen, Kendall Jenner, Ciara, and Vicky Krieps.

From now on, any outfit made from sheer fabrics such as chiffon, lace, or mesh that reveals breasts, buttocks, or other private areas may be banned.

Organizers emphasized their intention to keep “excessive self-exposure confined to the beach—not their red carpet.”
