Two Popular Rwandan Film Stars, Sandrine Uwimpundu and Bahavu Usanase Jeannette, Withdraw from Inganji Awards 2025, Cite Poor Organization and Unnotified Participation
On the morning of January 16, 2025, Sandrine Uwimpundu, a well-known Rwandan actress, announced her withdrawal from the 2025 Inganji Awards. Uwimpundu, famous for her roles in films like Umuturanyi, Inzira Y’umusaraba, Umwari Series, My Heart, Agahinda ka Liza, and others, expressed dissatisfaction with the awards’ organization, citing that she was listed as a nominee without prior notification. In an Instagram post, she accused the organizers of using her name for their personal gain without informing her about her participation in the competition.
Uwimpundu’s decision came after Bahavu Usanase Jeannette, a prominent actress known for her roles in City Maid, Inzozi Series, Impanga Series, Bad Choice, Fake Prophecy, and others, also announced her withdrawal yesterday on January 15, 2025. Jeannette’s resignation was confirmed in a letter from her manager and husband Fleury Ndayirukiye.
The Inganji Awards 2025 organized by Talent Care in partnership with Rwanda Performing Arts, are currently in the process of online voting.
