What was expected to be a dream-come-true moment turned unexpectedly emotional for American singer, actress, and entrepreneur Selena Gomez.
The award-winning star, who exchanged vows with her longtime partner and music producer Benny Blanco in September, has revealed that she found herself in tears only weeks after the grand ceremony.
The couple’s intimate wedding took place on a 70-acre private estate in Santa Barbara, California, attended by a few close friends and family members — among them pop superstar Taylor Swift.
Although she looked stunning in an elegant ivory gown as she said “I do,” Gomez later admitted that the overwhelming joy of the day was followed by fear and anxiety.
Speaking at the Fortune’s Most Powerful Women conference in Washington, D.C., she opened up about the emotional battle she faced soon after the wedding.
“Whenever something good happens in my life, I always expect something bad to follow,” Gomez said. “After I got married, I started crying and thought, ‘What if I die tomorrow?’ It sounds strange, but that’s how my mind works sometimes.”
Gomez explained that she is slowly learning to enjoy the moment and be grateful, even when her thoughts try to convince her otherwise.
Holding on to the Dream of Motherhood
Beyond her recent wedding, Gomez has also spoken openly about her hopes of becoming a mother one day.

Just two weeks after her marriage, she hinted at her dream in an Instagram post while promoting Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, a sequel to the Disney show that made her a household name.
Posting a short video from the series, she captioned it:
“Alex Russo is a mommy — hopefully one day that’ll be me.”
However, the Only Murders in the Building star has previously shared that health complications have made pregnancy unsafe for her.
In an earlier interview with Vanity Fair, Gomez revealed that due to lupus, an autoimmune disease she has battled for years, she cannot carry a child naturally.
“I can’t carry my own children because of medical reasons that could risk my life and the baby’s,” she said. “It took time to accept that reality.”
Despite the challenge, the singer remains hopeful about becoming a mother through adoption or surrogacy.
“It may not happen the usual way, but it will happen,” she affirmed. “Whether through surrogacy or adoption, that child will still be mine.”
Gomez’s honesty has long been one of her most admired traits. Over the years, she has used her voice to raise awareness about mental health, chronic illness, and self-worth — inspiring millions of people who see themselves in her struggles.
By sharing her fears, grief, and determination, Selena Gomez continues to show that even behind fame and glamour, there’s a story of resilience, faith, and hope.
