Kenya’s Harambee Stars booked their place in the CHAN 2024 quarter-finals with a determined 1–0 victory over Morocco in their Group A clash at Kasarani Stadium.

Wesley Ogam gave Kenya the lead in the 42nd minute, sending the home crowd into wild celebrations. The match turned tense when C. Erambo was shown a red card in first-half stoppage time (45+4’), forcing the Stars to play the entire second half with 10 men. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Kenya’s defense held firm, earning a crucial win.

This victory triggers President William Ruto’s KSh 1 million per win pledge, meaning each player and member of the technical bench will pocket the promised bonus.

However, the match was not without controversy. Some fans forced their way into Kasarani Stadium, breaching security and causing a chaotic scene at the gates. This follows a CAF fine issued to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) after crowd control issues during Kenya’s opening match against DR Congo. CAF has since urged local organizers to tighten security for the remainder of the tournament.

In other CHAN 2024 results, Tanzania beat Madagascar 2–1, also securing their quarter-final place. With these wins, both Kenya and Tanzania top their respective groups heading into the knockout stages.

The CHAN 2024 final will be played at Kasarani Stadium, giving the Harambee Stars extra motivation to push all the way and lift the trophy on home soil. Co-hosts Uganda also remain in the race after a convincing 3–0 victory over Guinea in their second group match.

As the tournament continues across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, East African teams are making a strong case for regional dominance in this year’s competition..
