Nishimwe Naomie, crowned Miss Rwanda in 2020, has spoken out strongly in defense of her husband, Michael Tesfay, after a series of online comments mocking him and labeling him as “poor” surfaced on social media.

During a live session on her Instagram account, Naomie addressed the recent controversy that began when photos of Tesfay boarding a public bus were widely shared online. Critics used the images to question his financial status, sparking a wave of public commentary.

In her live broadcast on instagram, Naomie expressed her frustration, stating clearly that her husband’s life and choices should not be up for public discussion.

“Where is he supposed to go? Just leave him alone,” she said. “When you see him, keep your mouths shut. If it helps, I can even buy you something called ‘Super Glue’ so that when you see him at night, you remain silent.”

She emphasized that while people are free to talk about her, they should not extend the same liberty to her husband.

“You can say whatever you want about me. I even heard people saying he’s poor! But did you ever see him on social media begging? Have I ever come here and said anything is wrong with him? No. So leave him alone. Did I give him to you? He’s mine. When I posted him online, did I ever ask you to take him? No. What you’re seeing is the face of a happy woman who is not battling any personal crisis.”

Photos of Tesfay boarding a public bus were widely shared online.

Naomie and Tesfay tied the knot on December 29, 2024. Since their wedding, she has often shared glimpses of their life together and frequently expressed gratitude for finding the man she prayed for.

Despite the online backlash, Naomie remains unwavering in her public support for Tesfay, making it clear that their relationship is built on love and not societal expectations.
